I love fragrance, but I find it very hard to explain. I seem to associate memories and feelings better with scent than I do with describing actual notes, or even working out what scent it is I gravitate toward the most. For me when I smell something that takes me somewhere, that reminds me of a specific memory or makes me feel a certain way – that’s how I know I love it. With that in mind, let’s meet the subject of today’s fragrance lust – Tom Ford’s Soleil Blanc*.
Jen is my Queen when it comes to product tip offs and new launches. She’s got her finger on the pulse, and never misses a beat. Recently we were at an incredible event with World Duty Free, browsing through their perfect Summer send-offs for a pre flight treat, when we realised there was a Tom Ford fragrance counter. I’ve never owned anything Tom Ford, but i’ve always wanted to. Jen immediately introduced me to a scent she loved, and I too, were smitten. It’s enveloped in simple elegance, with the Soleil Blanc fragrance in particular coming in a beautiful pure white with bronze gold detailing on the front. It’s cute, yet beyond stylish.
We sniffed a few of the fragrances, but the one I fell in love with immediately was Soleil Blanc. It smells like pure Summer, that hedonistic light breeze with the warm, musky temperatures of the ocean waves. It smells like that night you stayed up on the rooftop, drinking wine and gazing at the stars – they always shine brighter out of London, on holiday. It smelt to me like the perfect scent, and I loved it. But I never thought i’d own it.
For those of you after the more exact scent smells, it’s a delectable mixture of white florals, in a golden amber-sandalwood cocoon. The notes are Bergamot, Cardamom Oil Orpur, Pistachio Accord, Ylang Ylang Comores Islands, Benzoin Extract Orpur and Coco De Mer Accord. Personally i’m not too sure what all of those things mean or are but to me they smell like a year long Summer on a tropical island – the kind of luxury life I can only dream of!
They had a little competition on the day where you had to tweet out your must-have pre holiday items, and someone would win their choice. I never thought it would be me, but lo and behold a few days later the postman – in his usual cheery manner – exclaimed as always about the amount of parcels, and handed me over a small envelope. I always feel gracious and grateful for everything that comes my way from the many brands i’ve gotten to work with over the years, but this time around my reaction was indescribable. I felt like i’d won the lottery! Tom Ford, for me? No way.
It reminded me though that shopping World Duty Free is always the best feeling, and makes me feel a bit like that joyous post arrival moment. It’s that slightly jittery boarding a plane nerves mixed with the wanderlust in my heart that makes any purchases at the airport feel super special, like they made that little journey with me, and helped me feel like the most beautiful version of myself on holiday. Tom Ford Soleil Blanc is an expensive purchase, I mean, wow, it’s a real treat. But should you be passing through World Duty Free – or just your local fragrance hall – I can’t recommend this enough. I adore it.
