Gambling, cocktails, burlesque and metal – it can only really be the launch of one thing – Download Festival. I’ve been saying for years and years that Download has been the favourite festival of mine, so to be invited to check out their 2014 line up preview and get a taster of all things Download for me was right up my metal street. I actually haven’t been to the festival since 2007, and when asked why, i genuinely didn’t have an answer. I think i’ve been so wrapped up in work that it’s unfortunately slipped under the radar for me and it was at the party that i realised how gutted i was that that had happened. I’m making sure of it that i’ll be there at the front, lighters out and horns thrown for the 2014 festival!! Tbh, my decision to attend was made a million times easier when I saw that LINKIN PARK are playing HYBRID THEORY in FULL next year! (Caps were essential i’m afraid.) Be serious! Absolutely crazy amounts of cool, and really I owe it to the 2007 me, who saw Linkin Park and smiled all night she was so happy. To me this is a momentous opportunity to get back to that, especially with the same band headlining, even on the same day I saw them last time.

Download Festival for me was where I found myself. Being 15 at my first one I quickly learned how to grow up in an environment of fun, but also for a young girl, plenty of danger when left alone. I quickly became more streetwise, more confident and much more self assured – entirely because of Download Festival. I discovered music, passion and what it feels like to love a band so much you cry when you hear them live (and then end up on Channel 4’s Download coverage) because you’re so overwhelmed, and to be fun and carefree. To go back to those days at this party was one of my favourite moments of this year, and as an older woman now, I still feel the same amount of love and excitement for the festival that I felt back then.

I took George along with me, and we had a brilliant night. It was hosted at the new Shoreditch venue Far Rockaway, which is already added to our favourite London haunts list. Walls and ceilings covered in vinyl, skateboards and posters, it has the dingy rock club vibe without the sticky floors and the gross toilets. Big win, great vibes, great night. I’m coveting Download as my hangout of choice next year, forget Reading and Glastonbury – for the best vibes, the best time and the best line up, i’ll best be seeing you all at Download 2014! Do you love Download Festival? What are yout thoughts on next years headliners? How cute is my Waiste necklace?!
