This is a bit of an odd post because well, it didn’t turn out quite how I imagined it to. So I got this amazing parcel of all new Barry M Gelly Autumn/Winter shades through last week, and I had a real hard time choosing which one to put on, as they’re all a hot mix of the perfect mid-season shades. We’re not ready for the full on plummy Autumn shades yet, and we don’t wanna ditch the Summer brights, so this spices themed range is perfect for these weeks in between, as you can go as bright or as muted as you like. They’ve only just this week gone into store so they’re fresh off the bat, too.
I opted for the grey shade Chai as I thought it would be perfect to go with a shoot I did today, so I popped it on over the weekend. On Saturday I then received some new bits and bobs from Illamasqua, including this polish – Melange. I took one look at it (admittedly, in the dark) and thought, perfect, it’ll layer over Chai as a shiny top coat when Chai starts to chip. Lo and behold as you can see today Chai did a little chipping – I think I layered it on too thickly when painting – so I set about popping Melange on over the top. Melange is actually to my surprise, quite a thick shade in itself, so it almost didn’t really layer but just covered Chai up. D’oh. Great news though, because that means Melange doesn’t really need a base colour coat, which I previously thought it did.
Moral of the story? Swatch first! And well, if you’re looking for the perfect mid-season colour, you can splash out on a pretty sparkly Illamasqua option, or go for the £2.99 Barry M range, so I guess this post kinda worked in that it had a little something for everyone, and now I have the prettiest mixed nails, and I absolutely adore both shades. Worked well for me cos I got a few days wear out of Chai and then just layered Melange on so i’ll get a few days wear out of that, too!
God I hope this post made sense…
