Sorry for the iPhone quality photos, but MTV don’t allow big cameras in, so hopefully you can still get an idea of how the night was even though it was through my phone! I was ever so kindly invited up to Glasgow in Scotland by the Essence makeup team to experience the MTV EMAs as they made their way to our fair isle again after a few years away from the UK.

We stayed at the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow which was beautiful, as you can see from my big bed there! Because of it being quite fast paced between flying the same day and heading over to the awards I had to get ready in some of the quickest time ever, so I went for my standard makeup look – on the lips is my Sephora Luster Matte lipstick in Deep Plum. For the eyes i’ve used the Urban Decay Vice 3 palette. My dress and clothes are all down below but it’s from Religion – I bought it via ASOS. I’m going to shoot the dress in a proper outfit post soon as we didn’t get time to do it here!

We were taken through to a little VIP section at the red carpet to watch the arrivals come in – most of my photos are blurry but you’ll see in the vlog better that we got to see Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, Charli XCX, Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne and Biffy Clyro all walk in. All looking gorgeous, obviously. This was pretty overwhelming to see the fan reaction but also cool to see it quite calm and controlled like this. I got a selfie with Simon Neil from Biffy and he was the loveliest dude ever.

We then made our way to the seats for the show which were amazing – it was at Glasgow’s Hydro Arena btw – and we had the perfect view of the ceremony. The highlight for me being the end when Slash, Myles Kennedy and Simon Neil all got together to play Crazy Train. Oh my god. Maybe it was the free bar/cocktails making me a bit giddy but i literally could not control how excited I was.

It was also really amazing on a personal level, because one of my closest school friends now plays in Charli XCX’s band. She plays bass for her and has been touring all over the US in the last few months, but to see her play with Charli live at the MTV EMAs just made me so emotional and proud in the best way. We were probably never really the ones tipped to do that well at school, wanting to play silly ‘non classical’ instruments, and listening to punk bands and experimenting with our hair, and there we both were at the MTV EMAs. Our parents were going Facebook crazy! It was amazing to see.

I had a wicked time at the EMAs and am very grateful for Essence taking me there, and now I have some Essence makeup to play with! Thus far, the nail polishes are amazing….

Did you watch the MTV EMAs at home? What did you think?
