A FEW IDEAS ON GETTING YOURSELF OUT OF A BEAUTY RUT
I am so guilty as the next girl for nailing down a makeup regime and being bad at changing it, but i’m going to mix that up today and hopefully inspire you to do the same! There are a few things you can do easily without splurging mad on new makeup, and also to utilize that makeup stuffed to the back of your makeup collection.
MIX UP YOUR LIPSTICK
It makes sense to stick with what lipstick shade suits your skintone, so don’t go changing that, but if you’re prone to grabbing a red before you leave the house – replace it with a fresh pink. If you’re so into your nudes and don’t ever switch it up to a bold lip, try a bold lip. Today is that day. Don’t be afraid of red or orange if you’ve never tried it, it’s one of the most flattering makeup tricks you can do to your face. Give it a go, and soon you’ll be that girl switching her red to the pink!
SWAP BLACK FOR BLUE
Red lips. Fresh cheeks. Cat eyeliner. Tick. Okay, rewind just a bit. You don’t need to change this routine completely, but why not mix it up ever so slightly, by switching your black eyeliner for blue? And i’m not talking 90s bright cobalt blue (unless you want to, of course) you can do your cat eye with the same drama yet equal parts softness by trading in the harsh black for a navy blue. Totally perfect for Spring/Summer!
Why not try pulling out two or three of your foundations that you haven’t used in ages or were sat at the back of your collection (just make sure they haven’t oxidised) to the front of your desk, and each morning pick a different one to the last day. I suggest if you own them, trying a matte, dewy and then full or low coverage foundation finish to really mix things up. If you wanna take it a step further, put a dab of each on the back of your hand and mix all together! Cos well, why the hell not?
GO FOR GOLD INSTEAD OF PLUMPING FOR BROWN
The most obvious option each morning to swish all over your eyes is a brown eyeshadow. Why? It’s fully established it’s ownership of most flattering eyeshadow for every skin type, however we all seem to forget it’s sister flattering eyeshadow – the gold. Trade in your trademark brown for a rose gold, or a full on Olympic golden glitter, you can take your love for gold as bold or as soft as you like, but it’ll brighten up your face and make a subtle change from brown.
BLUSH TEXTURES DON’T NEED TO BE POWDER
Nothing says summer dewy skin like a cream blush, but I think for most people it’s not the go to blush – instead opting for a powder blusher. Shake up your finished look by adding a cream blusher for a new texture to the face, why not try it for a night out or when mooching about in the sun during the day?
OF COURSE, YOU COULD GO ALL OUT MIX UP
Once in a while I absolutely love to tip my entire makeup bag out, and go through each piece one by one and replace it with something else of the same. Ie: a liquid eyeliner for a gel one. You could make a habit of doing this once a month, even if it’s not for every product but just for one thing, so you really feel like you’re well and truly out of your beauty rut!
Go on, give it a go, and be sure to let me know how you get on!
