Bonsoir mes amis! This is a naughty what i’d call ‘stock post’ where basically i’ve nicked something from someone elses’s blog (the lovely Bicky’s, to be precise) and filled it in for myself. I’ve been so so busy lately and not had any time to eat hardly let alone take some photos of my ugly mug for blog purposes, haha. I can only apologise profusely. Anyway in a totally non narcissistic way I love these kinds of quizzes, probably because I love talking, and its basically a theraputic (and not classed as insane) way of talking to yourself. When I was like 15 and the internet was all about Neopets and MySpace and you were lame if you didn’t have msn and weren’t on it 24/7 I used to get forwarded emails like this with random questions in, and i’d take the time to fill them out and send them to all my friends (like i thought they’d be interested, haha) and i’ve not done anything like this since then, so it feels quite retro, and actually, quite liberating! Feel free to steal it and post it, I loved reading the ones I saw. Have a great evening!
//How many times do you wash your face daily?
Two for definite, sometimes three or four.
//What skin type do you have? (dry, oily, combination)
I have combination skin, an oily T-zone but a normal..rest of face?!
//What is your current facial wash?
I wash in the shower with Neutrogena 2 in 1 then cleanse with Garnier Essentials every morning, then at night time I remove make up with Garnier Eye Make up remover and wash face with Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish before toning with Liz Earle Tonic.
//Do you exfoliate?
Only once every two weeks or so, if I do it any more than that I get redness & irritation.
//What brand do you use?
I use St.Ives Apricot Scrub, I remember finding my mums in the bathroom around 14 when my skin was oily all over (ewww, teen skin) and feeling a million dollars after my bathtime. I used it every day for months and I think it really helped regulate the oil balance in my skin! I’d never do that now though..
//What moisturizer do you use?
Argh moisturizer gets a big “bleeeh” from me, I can never find one i’m fully happy with. At the moment, a Garnier Fresh day one but I don’t always like the feeling I get after using it, makes my skin feel a bit tacky. I’m on the hunt for perfection, pleeeease recommend me some. After reading Tali’s posts on Lancome I have been considering theirs for a while?
//Do you have freckles?
No, everyone else in my family does though, haha. Freak!
//Do you use eye cream?
I use a little soothing eye gel thing from Boots which considerably helps reduce the amount of lines if I have to use concealer. I need to invest in a good one.
//Do you or did you have acne prone skin?
Actually no, not really. I mean, yes, I get a couple of spots at certain times of months or on my chin if i’m incredibly stressed. But not when I was growing up really. Also if I feel one coming i’m so so quick to fight it, and using the Neutrogena stuff twice a day completely kills it. I’ve never had them on my cheeks or general face area though, I feel very lucky. The only mark I have on my face is from a chicken pox spot on my forehead! Damned chicken pox ! *shakes fist*
Did you ever have to use Pro-activ?
//What foundation do you use?
When it was my 16th birthday, my mum took me to Harrods on a trip to London and said I could choose a MAC foundation that I liked for my main present. I was just really getting into makeup properly and all I really remember was a really nice lady matched my whole face to Studio Fix Fluid and I fell in love there and then. I’ve used it ever since. We had a major fallout last summer when my skin was getting greasy in the heat and complaining about foundation but I soon discovered tinted moisturizer (ahhhh friend, best friend, football friend) and I realised it wasn’t MAC’s fault and took it back like a soppy old sod. I’m on my third bottle and I have them all lined up washed and waiting to be Back2MAC’ed. I’m looking to try some YSL, Dior and also Guerlain but haven’t got round to it..so much makeup so little time. I am currently mixing Studio Fix with pro Face and Body in pure white as i’m pale atm and I love it.
//How about concealer?
You know I feel like I very rarely use concealer, for bad times and blemishes I go for L’oreal Touche Magique, but on a regular day I’ll use my eye cream, then foundation and a little bit of YSL’s Touche Eclat not on the undereye but just below, on my cheekbone, and in the corner of my eye. Love the effect it gives.
//Do you know your undertone color?
I am cool. Like for cats. (you think my jokes are bad, they’re worse in real life..)
//What do you think of fake eyelashes?
Oh waaah, why do you tease me so? I love false eyelashes…well…in reason. I mean, we’ve all seen Snog Marry Avoid… But for photoshoots and for a glam night out I do like a full, striking lash look. Thing is i’m a chronic blind and I just can’t go anywhere without my glasses. No no, really. As in my laptop is now on my lap but if I didn’t have my glasses on i’d be freaking out as to what was causing such a horrible light and why was it near me, etc etc, i’m that bad. So glasses + false eyelashes = no no. I have some contact lenses coming sooon hopefully so maybe i’ll give them a bash then. Also I know what you’re thinking – “hmmmm.. if you have glasses why have we never seen them?” tres self concious, I automatically take them off for photos, no matter where I am! 🙂
//Did you know that you are supposed to change your mascara every 3 months?
Hmm yeah, thing is, i’ve never ever had a problem with irritation from using a mascara longer than that, and as long as it’s not dried and disgusting I think it’s fine. It’s like food, they stick a label on saying “don’t eat after x amount of time” but if you do (within reason, obvs dont with meat!!) you’re usually fine. I do all the time. If it’s not perishable, green, white, or blue with mould..it’s totally fine. I usually buy a new mascara after about four months anyway!
//What brand of mascara do you use?
I live and die by Lancome Hypnose. Honestly? Best ever. I’m on my third tube and I only found it last May. Next on my hit list are Diorshow Iconic, YSL Faux Cils and MAC Plushlash. Opinions?
//Sephora or MAC?
I imagine Sephora to be like Debenhams? Anyway MAC, there’s no Sephora in Blighty!
//Do you have a MAC Pro-card?
No but I need one the amount of damage I do there! Apparantly I could get one seeing as the specialist art/theater/fashion Uni I go to qualifies for the student program or something but having it would only fuel my addiction. Later in life there is plenty of time for Pro Cards!
//What makeup tools do you use in make up application?
Brushes! I’ve never tried applying make up with a sponge, just looks like the kind of thing they do with face paints? I use a £8 Duo-Fibre 187 rip off I found in my local Boots for application (this brush is brilliant i’d actually really recommend it) and a MAC 168 for contour (best.brush.ever, staple!) and a MAC Kabuki for powder and blending. I use my fingers and a little spray of water to blend my foundation evenly and lightly.
//Do you use make-up base/primer for the eyes?
Yes, I use either Urban Decay’s Primer Potion or MAC Creme Color Base. I want to try a paint pot 🙂
//For the face?
You know what this is the only piece of makeup i’ve ever just skipped. It doesn’t appeal to me at all, I can’t see it doing any good to my combi skin personally. I do use MAC Prep and Prime Oil Control on my T-zone on a really really bad day, but it is designed only for T-zone so not a normal face primer.
//What is your favorite eyeshadow (color or shade)?
Okay. So so hard. Eyeshadow is my biggest makeup downfall/addiction and is the one i’m constantly after more and more of. Favourites and ones I reach for every day are different..
I’d say my favourite ever ever is Urban Decay’s Baked but the one I reach for EVERY day is of course my beloved MAC All That Glitters. And to top that they go perfect together!
//Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?
Pencil mostly. I’ve just gotten back into liquid eyeliner after a spout of around 2 emo years put me off reaching for it ever again 😉 but we have rekindled our love.
//How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil?
Ouch! I can’t say i’ve ever done that, I daren’t risk blinding myself any more than I already am!
//What do you think of pigment eyeshadows?
I used to own a couple of MAC pigments but I sold one on eBay and gave one to my sister simply because i’m a blind bat and I take my glasses off to do makeup, and I kept spilling expensive eye magic! Also I travel, a lot, and things loose in pots don’t sit well on the tube/train/flights. Shame cause I LOVED the MAC colours I had. Should have pressed them. >.<
//Do you use mineral makeup?
I tried some samples of Bare Escentuals and Lily Lolo and I loved the foundation but everything else was a big no. The blush was messy and not very pigmented. I like the foundation for lazy days, or I found I reached for them most when I had to pop to the supermarket.
//What is your favorite lipstick?
Argh! I don’t feel I own not nearly enough lipsticks. Honestly. I own GOSH’s Darling and I love it and then I own two MAC LE ones and only one permanant as well as a couple drugstore. I want more. At the moment my favourite is MAC Culture Class, it’s a deep mahogany/scarlet red and it makes me feel like Marilyn. (Monroe, not Manson)
//How about lipgloss?
You’re talking to the right girl about lipgloss! I have hundreds of the buggers! But my favourite ever ever is MAC’s Preciousness from Baroque Boudoir. It’s such a pretty pearly pink, it feels gorgeous, it tastes and smells gorgeous (like all MAC lipglosses) and I remember going to Harrods to look at it a week or so before Christmas and my boyfriend merely said then and there, you can have it right now. He knew it was LE and how much I wanted it. It’s the only piece of make up he’s ever bought me*, so I think I treasure it more.
*He does not condone addiction. I come back with some kind of xbox based retort, usually.
//What is your favorite blush to use?
Blush again I don’t have lots of. But it’s Ripe Peach at the moment, I own nothing like it and i’d never have gone for peach blush were this one not like a glowing sunset but it’s beautiful. I adore it!
//Do you buy your makeup on ebay?
It depends on what it is. I have bought some Urban Decay for pennies on there and it has been absolutely fine, and genuine, but i’ve only ever bought one MAC LE Palette that I wanted so much my life depended on it..(not really). eBay is fine if you know how to work it. I know what i’m looking for inside out before I search on eBay for it, and then I know what is genuine. Avoid bulk sellers or sellers with thousands of feedback – it’s usually all from a warehouse in Taiwan. I’d rather buy a piece a woman with 5 feedbacks has tried but not liked and has the receipt rather than a fake with 100% feedback. I’ve bought amazing bargains on there before though. And I buy a LOT of nail polish 🙂
//Do you like drugstore makeup?
It depends on the brand. I skip a lot of the counters in Superdrug/Boots. I often look at the price of things and instead of thinking “yay it’s £3 cheaper than MAC/Illamasqua/NARS/delete as appropriate” I always think “but for £3 more I could have MAC etc” and on that basis I only own a handful of things. If it’s a new piece of make up i’ve not tried before, ie, bronzer, i’ll try a drugstore brand before a high end. I love GOSH, L’Oreal and Barry M but skip most others. The shops put me off though, in London its usually half full and out of my shade. Or the lights have been so bright it’s dried out the brand new sealed make up i’ve bought and then can’t return (hello sleek ink pot, grr). Also my biggest gripe is the security stickers!! I hate sticky residue ergh!
//Do you go to CCO’s? (cosmetic company outlets)
No but my Mum and Dad go for me, wheey! They make two trips, before Christmas and Birthdays and pick up any LE MAC or any eyeshadows me or my sis are after. I’d like to go, but i’d spend the same amount of money getting there than I would on full price cosmetics!
//Did you ever consider taking make-up classes?
Aw shucks you know it’d be cool, thing is i’m funny about what people try and teach me. I go to a purpose art built Uni because they don’t sit and teach me what to do, they wait for me to show them what I can do. (I’ve never had a ‘lesson’ nor had to read textbooks or be taught at my uni, never.) And I like to use blusher for eyeshadow and eyeliner for lipliner so any form of make up school would probably hate me. Plus i’m doing an Bachelor of Arts degree, think i might be wasting my time doing any other kind of part time course as well as that! I also don’t think you need any form of qualification to get anywhere in the industry, a qualification on paper can’t show you talent and creativity. I know it’ll teach you everything you need to know but I think if you’re so passionate and show initiative that’ll show through if you go to an interview. Alex Box was an artist before she was a make up artist and she’s my favouritest. Also also I want to work for a fashion magazine or in the music industry (broad, i know). My sister is studying beauty therapy which I think is awesome, facials, massages, waxing, treatments – now that needs training!! Imagine waxing with no training..
//Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
Actually I feel very proud to say I can put my make up on perfectly with no holes/mismatched foundation/ott blush/wonky eyeliner in 6 minutes – the time it takes on a South West Train to roll in from Clapham Junction to Wimbledon in the morning before work 🙂
Name a makeup crime that you hate?
Ooh probably the biggest is too much foundation, like where you can see the layers, like polyfiller! Girls who put on too much mascara making it go massively clumpy. Wrong shades of foundation and when there’s no lipliner so lipstick bleeds out. Actually my sister has the biggest make up crime ever, and I always tell her off. She does not care for her makeup! It gets thrown in one big bag, still dirty, lids off, powder everywhere, foundation everywhere. It’s horrible!! I clean all my bottles, pens, little pots of eyeshadow and they are all stored in their own home, grouped together. 🙂
//Do you like colorful shades of makeup (lipstick,eyeshadow) or neutral ones?
Definitely neutrals. I’m a bit like that with clothing though, years of goth/emo suppression has made me inadvertently scared of colour. I’m gradually getting colour into my wardrobe. I went through a stage of only wearing bright green eyeshadow (but I also had orange hair) but after i’d never dream of anything but browns or blacks. Since that though i’ve managed to work pinks and purples in, yessss! I am getting there, slowly. I want to! Especially lipsticks.
Which celebrity always has great make up?
Actually I think most celebrities look brilliant. Dita Von Teese is my ultimate lady crush. She is flawless. I want pale(r) skin more like hers! Lady Gaga is always incredible. I really like Avril Lavigne, Kat Von D, Katy Perry is a big big love. I love Fearne Cotton’s most of the time, Nicola Roberts too! Haha loads..
//If you could leave the house using just ONE make up item,what would you use?
Argh!!! Foundation, simply because it evens out all redness/blemishes/makes you look alive.
//Could you ever leave the house without any makeup on?
I actually do most mornings until I get on the train. I leave the house often with only Touche Eclat and mascara on to pop to Asda. I am happy in my skin, just happier in make up! Ha.
//Do you think you look good even without any makeup on?
Not good. I feel uncomfortable, but I do embrace that is me and I always think life could be a lot, lot, lot worse. I’m so very lucky. Lucky to live in a world where talking about make up on a blog is common place, let alone have a full working body. I cherish everything i’ve got.
//In your opinion, what is the BEST makeup line?
In terms of versatility, definitely MAC. Very few of their products disappoint me. MAC keeps me going back. There’s something about their collections and knowledge of trends and the fact they start said trends that is almost like a fashion line rather than your run of the mill cosmetics brand. I love that they launched with RuPaul and Dita as their spokespeople and in the 90s when it wasn’t so widely accepted too. Although if you read my last post you’d see the love i’ve just found for NARS..ask me in 6 months!
//What do you think of Makeup?
Make up is what you make of it. It is a huge part of a woman’s life, and a release, a liberating moment where you can play with colours, textures and truly find who you are. It makes me feel glorious, beautiful, strong and vibrant. I’d be very bored without make up. It is my fuel for artistry.
See, I like talking.. Sorry. I’ll give you all back that time I just took from you real soon, promise.
Lots of love, Z xox
