I think most of us are familiar with probably Bobbi Brown’s most cult classic item, the Shimmer Brick. If not, they’re a little ‘brick’ shaped compact of several different shades that help to highlight and contour or blush the face. They have been duped the world over and while are beautiful, have always been a little bit too sparkly for me. Well for Spring 2015 the idea has had a little revamp into these insanely cute little ‘Brightening Bricks’ which are more of a highlighter meets blush in some cases.
There’s actually six shades but I have four today to show you, as you can see in the photo below, they are: (top left) Cranberry, (top right) Pastel Pink, (bottom left) Coral and (bottom right) Pastel Peach.

Although it does vary shade to shade, skin tone to skin tone, on the whole these make a pretty flush of highlight meets blush shade. I found the Pastel Peach one did make a really subtle blusher on me, but may be used well as an all over finishing/setting powder – a bit like the Guelain Meteorites or something. I don’t mind a bit of shimmer, especially for a highlight, but these ones are a bit shimmery at first. Quite a lot of the ‘chunky’ glitter is on the top though so once you’ve swiped over it a couple of times it becomes more of a subtle shimmer – hence why I think some might be nice as a set powder.
The darker ones though, Cranberry and Coral, for me are a shimmery blush affair. Cranberry is the darkest on paleys and needs to be used with a dab hand, but will be better for autumn/winter. My favourite I think is Pastel Pink which seems to suit my skintone perfectly as a blusher – but I do also love the Coral shade which I think will be perfect in Summer. Hopefully you can see in each picture how they’re a little different, but they are on the whole fairly similar, especially the coral toned shades.
The Bobbi Brown Brightening Bricks will retail from February 2015 and sell at £33 each. What do you think, wil you be picking one up? Which one is your favourite?
