TO CELEBRATE 150 YEARS OF DAKS, THE HERITAGE DESIGNER TOOK TO THE ROYAL OPERA HOUSE FOR AN OPULENT PASTEL COLLECTION FOR SPRING SUMMER.
HAIR: LUKE HERSHESON FOR L’OREAL PROFESSIONEL
MAKEUP: MARIA COMPARETTO FOR MAC COSMETICS
With 120 years in heritage fashion, Daks took to the only venue befitting for such an occasion for their SS15 show – The Royal Opera House. There was a whole air of calm and grace, much like there would be for a ballet performance, over the entire backstage area. As you can hopefully see in my photos – the setting was just sublime. Absolutely beautiful.
Opting for muted lilacs and parma violet shades mixed in with blues, Daks made a new modern ballgown. As the gentle, etherial fabrics glided down the runway, the whole thing had almost a metallic feel to it, and it was reflected in the makeup. Maria Comparetto for MAC Cosmetics headed up the team, and she opted for a Grace Kelly inspired fifties makeup, but in a new fresher way.
Using really fresh, beautiful highlighted skin, Maria used the MAC Strobe Cream to really bring out an inner glow. The lips were Sakura Lip Gloss which I absolutely adored, and they were using Humble eyeshadow as a contour. With Luke Hersheson for L’Oreal Professionel on hair, he mixed together the style of a fifties teddy boy with a slight hint of a quiff, and almost old hairdressing styles to make a baroque inspired back updo. I really loved the mix of toughness meets luxe, and he described the back of the hair to me as “neither a plait, nor a bun. Don’t read into it too much.” So relaxed, yet so easy to recreate and style up yourself at home!
All in all, perhaps a slight diversion from the usual Daks style for the regular customer, but with the 120 celebrations onboard it simply had to be something stunning, and boy did they pull it off. Chiffon met ruffles, and pastel met romantic fabrics for a grown-up ball gown attire. The entire look together felt like a dream. This is the new evening wear, Daks style.
** SO HOW CAN I DO THIS AT HOME? **
It can be hard reading glossy Fashion Week reports and imagining doing the looks at home, so this season i’m adding in a few easy-to-recreate tips for us normies (and on a budget, too!) I’ll be trying some of them out myself. Here’s how you can get a similar style to the Daks London Fashion Week show!
– This one for me had such easy makeup. Get highlighting!
– Play about with twisting, pinning, plaiting, bun-making and tousle the hair up. You never know what you’ll end up with!
– Add in a hint of lilac/parma violet into your wardrobe for that sophisticated night look.
– The lips are so easy to re-create, it’s a soft, peachy baby pink. Gorgeous!
– Ever so slightly quiff your hair at the front for that toughness style.
– Try delicate fabrics instead of chunky, thick ones.
And there you go! For me, Daks was one of the most soft/wearable makeup looks. What do you think of the Daks show at Fashion Week?
