When I first gazed eyes upon the Sand and Surf collection, I did a little gasp. Aesthetically, it’s beautiful. The packaging is luxe but still insanely summery, and the range of shades and colours is gorgeous. The thing you have to remember with Bobbi Brown though is that it’s not all about pigment and colour with them, it’s about an inner glow and bringing out the most beautiful you can be through makeup.
Baring that in mind, I knew that the blue and the green in the Surf palette weren’t going to be as pigmented as I would have liked them to be. The reality is that they are really just a glitter shade, one blue toned, and one green toned. I’m not sure you can really see on the swatches on my hand above, but they’re really just glitter. Which is great if you’re not looking for a big bold colour, but not so great if you are. So take that or leave that how you will. I was expecting a bit more colour, but I do actually love the glitter. It’s like a duo-chrome glitter, so it makes a pretty subtle wash in the colour you want. Think glistening sea, mermaid hair and pretty shells and that’s what you’ve got. I used it as a highlight and I actually really like the effect. For me, these will be best used over the top of a really dark shade – a black or even a grey – to add a pretty glitter tone.
The other shades in the palette are pretty, but they’re not groundbreaking. My favourite has to be the top right hand sparkly gold, which is what i’ve used on my eyes here, blended out with a little bit of the bottom left hand shade. I’ve used them just on their own today, to show you the pay off, but of course layered over a cream shadow they’ll pop a lot more.
The Sheer Lip Colours for me kinda are what they are. In the top photo of me i’m wearing the Summer Nude shade, which is a bit more creamy and pigmented than the other two, and in the bottom pic i’m applying the Peach Sorbet shade – which for me is the stand out of the lot. I wore that one most of the time in Barcelona! It is ideal for holiday because it’s just a pretty wash of colour rather than being a heavy lipstick.
The stand out of the collection in my opinion has to be the pink brightening blush though, it’s absolutely beautiful. Its ideal for my skintone and the mix of highlighter and blusher works so perfectly. If I had to recommend just one thing, i’d say this hands down.
